MAHA MAMO TEAM
for SASANE

Hi everybody!

I am delighted to invite you to my first online camp to support Sasane, a community in Nepal supporting victims of human trafficking. An Online Camp is an event that allows people to create teams capable to develop a project to make positive changes all over the world.

One of the SASANE programs is The citizenship program – In Nepal, people can find themselves unable to access citizenship if there are issues concerning their birth certificates, particularly if the father is unnamed. As some of SASANE beneficiaries are affected, this is a topic close to their heart.

I invite in my team, people who are ready to help with their knowledge and abilities to make a real change in the situation for one community in the world that needs our support and help. The main requirement for the participants is the desire to help and work in a team.

CAMP DAYS SUMMARY

DAY 1 ACQUAINTANCE

It was truly amazing to meet all our 14 camp participants! We have started our first online camp with self-presentations. Pretty sure it was the fastest two hours in our lives since we got into the quarantine. We heard a lot of amazing stories and learned a bit about each other. It is inevitable that together we are going to be a strong team!

DAY 2 TEAM BUILDING and SASANE

After learning general information about each other, we took a step forward. We have prepared a list of questions, which is hard to answer even to yourself, not talking about sharing it out loud. For the first part of the session, the team split up into two groups where each of us faced our personal challenges.

DAY 3 THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX

We are understand, that in 2 weeks we cannot change the whole world… We can change something small, but fundamental for the big changes to come.Today we had a very interesting task…What you would do to help SASANE or how you will proceed to change the situation about human trafficking in Nepal if you would be that (famous) person…

DAY 4 THINK GLOBAL, ACT LOCAL

So what Shakira, Angela Merkel, Ronaldo, and Dalai Lama would do? ... organize fundraising concert, be an ambassador, write a song, unferstand the root of the problem, think local, and fight for the survivor’s rights on the higher politician level, and raise awareness. Today we are living with some homework: Unknown/Known analytical exercise from Maha Mamo.

DAY 5 TOOL KIT

Sometimes, the easiest solutions are the hardest ones. It is challenging to understand, that the tools you need to succeed are in your pocket. Today the team discussed the ways we can help SASANE to reach their goals. Communication, legal advise, social presentation, parterships and collaborations...

DAY 6 SURVIVORS, NOT VICTIMS

We established why SASANE does not have a consistency of an online present... Volunteers are doing the social communication. The guestion is, how can we bring the image of SASANE to be more unite and clear… Create a Portfolio!!! So, they can represent themselves loud and clear! So, they would be able to build public trust in organization.

DAY 7 WORK FLOW BEGINS

We got a feedback from Prashesh Dhakal about our idea of Communication Tool Kit, and how we can help SASANE to move forward on their mission. We realized that SASANE does not have a recourse lo lead all accounts on social platforms at ones. Why does Communication matter?

DAY 8 DREAMER, REALIST or PESSIMIST?

It was productive session for the Maha Mamo team today! Using the Jamboard we put ourselves in the shoes of a Dreamer, Realists, and Pessimist in context of the project. We discussed what actions should we take to be realistic about our deadlines and goals. Silvia Rosa presented highly valuable information about what the NGO need to be able to apply for the funds.

DAY 9 ALIENS HAVE ARRIVED!

Aliens have arrived! How can we explain them what is our project is about when they do not speak any language on Earth? It was fun and creative exercise!!!! Maha Mamo Team is on the finishing line. The emotions are overwhelming, encouragement and feelings of belonging as well!!! During the second part of our session, we picked up all loose ends and separated responsibilities. Let's see what the last day of the Camp will bring us tomorrow!!!

DAY 10 FINAL DAY!

MORE ABOUT SASANE

In 2007 a group of human trafficking survivors came together to create a special organization to protect human trafficking survivors, ran by survivors. The name SASANE means let’s protect ourselves. SASANE’s vision is to empower each survivor with the skills, knowledge and self-esteem to reach their full potential and their mission is to end the physical and sexual exploitation of women and girls.

Citizenship is one of the most important elements of a civic identity. Without citizenship, an individual may easily lose the legal basis for establishing almost all social, political, economic, and jurally relationships in a modern state, society, and community. In any democratic state, citizenship concludes the civic relationships fused with rights and duties as the core expression of an individual identity. Nepal has historically suffered from the problem of equal citizenship, which the Constitution of Nepal, 2015 has failed to address. Women, in particular, are deprived of the equal status in imparting citizenship to their children. The practice of a male-dominated citizenship policy has continuously hindered fulfillment of the aspirations of gender equality.

ONLINE CAMP

Dates: March 15, 2021 - March 26, 2021

Activity: 2 hours of zoom sessions per day / Monday - Friday

Camp will generate ideas to support SASANE to make progress with the implementation of the Citizenship program. The camp would create resources to raise awareness of the above-explained issue e.g. webpage, content, campaigns, strategies.

During some online sessions, people from different parts of the world will meet online to research, understand and develop ideas, and contribute with solutions to this neuralgic issue.
